Facts About Ghana |
| Ghana (GAH nuh) is a
small, low income country located in West Africa, with a population of
about 21 million people. It has an area of 238,537 kilometers and a coast
line of 560 kilometers. It is divided into 10 administrative regions,
which are further divided into 110 districts. Ghana has a tropical climate. Accra, Ghana’s capital and largest city has an average temperature of 80 degrees F (27 degrees C). About 99% of Ghana’s people are black Africans. The population also includes small groups of people of Asian and European descent. Ghana’s cities have many modern buildings, but many people in the cities live in houses that have mud walls and tin roofs. Many of the streets have open sewer gutter-systems, which attract mosquitoes and flies. Health Care: Ghana has been and still is grappling with a "brain drain" and migration of doctors, nurses, dentists, medical assistants, and other health workers. Health care is unavailable to
most Ghanaians due to the lack of transportation and hospital fees. Ghana
operates on a Cash-and-carry system. Patients must pay up front for
services, in cash, no insurance plans are available. Many patients are
kept in the hospital, if they do not have money to pay. They must stay;
until someone pays their bill? . . . Guards are employed for the
enforcement the of policy! |
