Dr. Willie Williams, Ph.D.
Physics

Dr. Willie Williams' is University Professor of Physics and Pre-engineering Program Coordinator, where he has served this university for over 30 years. He chaired the Physics Department and developed programs for the preparation of minority students for careers in Science, Engineering and Mathematics (SEM). Dr. Williams became the Principal Investigator for the nationally recognized Lincoln Advanced Science and Engineering Recruitment (LASER) Program, that identified, recruited, trained and prepared students for careers in SEM fields, graduate and professional school. The program provided an integrated set of components: Pre-freshman summer bridge program; Scholarship and fellowship support; Community College Program; Honors program; Student personal and career counseling; Student undergraduate research; Summer internships; Career and professional field trips; Tutorial services program; Graduate and Professional school prep. Over the years, Dr. Williams has served as a Research Scientist for the Department of Defense, where he managed the development of the power sub-systems associated with national satellite programs. In particular, he managed the development of the first mass-produced Gallium Arsenic solar cells and the development of significantly improved Nickel Hydrogen batteries.
