Mr. Richard Patterson Is President of a nuclear waste management company, specializing in high level and low level radioactive waste processing His company was the first minority owned and operated company of its kind. Mr. Patterson began his career in the nuclear power industry in 1974 at Duke Power's Oconee Nuclear Station, South Carolina. In 1979 a highlight in his career came just after the "Three-Mile Island Nuclear Accident". Mr. Patterson was selected and sent to lead the first "Recovery Team" given the responsibility for engineering efforts to gather the first radioactive gas and water samples and perform cleanup tasks. The reactor on Three-Mile Island in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania became America's first crippled nuclear reactor that caused worldwide attention. Mr. Patterson managed this task as the Unit 2 Radiological Controls Supervisor for eighteen months after the accident. In 1982 Mr. Patterson was employed by Southern California Edison to work at its San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station to develop its Emergency Response Training Program. He later became a Refueling Engineer and was given credit for managing the movement of 142 Highly Radioactive Spent Fuel Assemblies. |
