Dr. Obed Norman, Ph.D. Dr. Norman is Principal Investigator and Director: Performance Enhancement for African American Students in Science (PEASS) Research Project and Associate Professor of Science Education, Graduate Programs in Science and Mathematics Education at Morgan State University. He was an Associate Professor in Science Education, San Jose State University, CA (2001 - 2005). From 1994 - 2001, he was Assistant Professor in Science Education, Washington State University, Vancouver. In 1999, Obed was Awarded Early Career NSF Research award for $500,000, which recognized and supported the early career development activities of those teacher-scholars who were most likely to become the academic leaders of the 21st century. He has written "Do Black Adolescents Equate Getting Good Grades with 'Acting White? : A Historical and Empirical Exploration", "Voices from the Classroom: African American Students' Perceptions of their Science Classroom and Science Learning Experiences", "The Black-White Achievement Gap in Science: Trends, Questions, and Implications for Research and Practice", and "Science, Race, and Education: A Symposium", presented At the Annual Meeting of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching. Dr. Norman has always excelled in school. In 1983, he was listed among top ten High School Graduates in South Africa. |
