Dr. Linda C. Meade-Tollin, Ph.D.
Biochemistry

Dr. Meade-Tollin is a member of the Surgery faculty and of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Arizona. She has established a novel angiogenesis assay with human microendothelial cells that allows rapid screening of pure compounds and crude extracts for factors that modulate angiogenesis. The assay has been used to screen and identify extracts of desert fungi and herbs present in an alternative therapy for prostate cancer. which are effective at sub-cytotoxic concentrations. Other research interests include the role of stem cells in invasion and metastasis and of of matrix metalloproteinases in human angiogenesis, and development of in vitro models for the early stages of human angiogenesis. She is a recipient of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers Henry Hill Award in 1998. She teaches a course, Strategies For Success for minority doctoral students in biomedical disciplines, and lectures on invasion and metastasis in a graduate Tumor Immunology course. The Wild Butterfly Foundation has been established by Dr. Jacqueline Bell-Jones and Will Jones, to support and further the cancer research of Dr. Linda Meade-Tollin, to encourage the development and education of future research scientists, and to disseminate information about cancer to minority populations.
