Dr. Djuana M. E. Harvell, Ph.D.
Cancer Biology, Cell Biology

Dr. Harvell is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University where she earned her BS and MS degrees in Chemistry in1995. In 2001, she earned a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Pathology and Microbiology. Currently, she works in the laboratory of Dr. Kathryn B. Horwitz and teaches at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Her research focus is to understand the actions of the ovarian steroid hormones, estrogen and progesterone, and their role in breast cancer development and progression. The long-term goals of her work are to understand how hormones control breast cancer growth, to understand how breast tumors become resistant to hormone treatment, and to devise ways through which the development of resistance to breast cancer treatment can be avoided. Dr. Harvell has received numerous awards and has spoken and published widely on the subject of issues relating to breast cancer.
