Dr. Mack Gipson, Jr., Ph.D. Deceased in 1995. Was a Professor of Geology and research scientist in academia. His petroleum research activities focused on a number of areas including the petroleum potential and resevoir characteristics of hte East Slovakian and Danube basins of Slovakia, Purdue Bay (North Slope, Alaska), Pakistan, the Gulf of Mexico, Tanzania, Somalia, Senmark, and mass physical properties of saprolites in the South Carolina Piedmont. In June 1964, Dr. Gipson became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Geological Sciences at Virginia State University in Petersburg. He was also the Director of the NAtional Science Foundation Summer Institute for High School Teachers for Earth Science (1965 - 73); he also directed an Academic Year Institute in Earth Sciences ofr two years. During this period he performed research investigations on the geology of Mars, which were sponsored by NASA. From 1973 - 74, Dr. Gipson was a visiting scientist with the Exxon Company in petroleum exploration. In 1975 he accepted a position in petroleum research with Exxon Production Research Company, where his work included investigations in seismic stratigraphy, unconventional methods in exploration, reservoir evaluation, and clastic diagenesis. In 1982, he became Manager and Senior Clastic Geologist with ERCO Petroleum Services, Inc.. |
