Dr. Franklin is a Professor in the Dept. of Biomedical Sciences, Dental School, University of Maryland, Baltimore. He is also the Director of the Molecular Cell Biology Track of the graduate program in Biomedical Sciences where he is actively involved in prostate cancer research. His honors and professional activities include: Grant reviewer for the NSF, the NIH, the American Osteopathic Society and the Department of Defense, Prostate and Breast Cancer Research Programs. Among his awards are a Porter Foundation Fellowship; Outstanding Research Award, Howard University; Howard Hughes Distinguished Scientist Award, 1994; and he was profiled in Distinguished African American Scientists of the 20^th Century, Oryx Press, 1996. He is an ad hoc reviewer for Endocrinology, The Prostate, American Journal of Physiology, Biochemistry, Journal of Andrology, Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Biochimica et Biochysica Acta and Journal of the American Association of Cancer Research. He was a member of the Reproductive Endocrinology Study Section, NIH (1992-1996) and its Chairman (1994-1996). He was a member of the Reproductive Endocrinology Study Section, NIH (2002 - 2004) and was the chairman of the Integrative and Clinical Endocrinology and Reproduction Study Section, NIH (2004-2005).
