Dr. Robert V. Edwards, Ph.D. Prof. Edwards’ research has primarily been in laser light scattering for dynamic measurements. The technique is used to measure fluid velocities, surface tension, particle size and many other dynamic phenomena. In the process of doing this research, he learned a lot of techniques for modeling stochastic processes and for designing instrumentation based on the results of the calculations. This involved numerical simulations and creating statistical data processing algorithms that were simply impractical to apply in the recent past. The advent of the PC changed all of that and made who new classes of computation available to engineers and scientists. This research resulted in over 50 refereed publications. He has spent 14 years in academic administration at Case Western Reserve University, having served as department chairman (twice), associate dean, and assistant to the President for Minority Affairs. Prof. Edwards is a fellow of the AIChE. His latest efforts have involved trying to transmit the statistical knowledge gained in his research to the average practicing engineer. Part of that effort is his book "Processing Random Data: Statistics for Engineers and Scientists." |
