Dr. Rufus Benton Darden
Civil Engineering

Dr. Darden has over 30 years experience in the water/wastewater areas of civil engineering, including 2 years as a U.S. Air Force Base Utility Engineer. His experience is summarized as follows: Designed a stormwater detention system for the San Francisco International Airport North Field Air Cargo Facility development. The detention system for the 45-acre site consisted of drain pipes, pump stations and a detention pond designed for a 5-year storm. Approximately 45,000 cu. ft. of initial (contaminated) runoff was detained, and subsequent runoff was pumped to San Francisco Bay using two 250 horsepower pumps. He utilized the Haestad Methods' Stormcad program for obtaining flows and analyzing hydraulics. Dr. Darden has designed 1200 horsepower recycled water pump station with hydropneumatic tank for Napa -American Canyon Water Recycling Facility expansion. His many other experiences include managing the design of a 70,000-GPD wastewater pump station and collection system and construction assistance services for three wastewater collection and treatment facilities in Tulare County, CA; as well as preparing 10% design of grading, drainage, utilities, and roads at six sites along the San Francisco Hetch Hetchy water system. He served as Project Engineer preparation of wastewater master plans for the cities of Santa Maria and Taft, CA.
