Dr. Gilbert B. Chapman II, Ph.D. Gil worked as a senior manager, senior specialist, project engineer and senior research engineer in advanced materials and materials characterization at two automotive manufacturers and NASA. This provided an extensive background of challenging assignments in research, development, and engineering. His specialties include specifying and selecting automotive materials and processes, nondestructive evaluation (NDE), emission spectrochemical analysis, high-energy fuels, supersonic propulsion, artificial intelligence, composites quality, the implementation of technical innovations in manufacturing systems, processes and products, as well as managing four testing laboratories, part-time college teaching and the establishment and management of several cross-functional teams. Before employment in the automotive industry, he was employed at NASA in a wide range of R&D assignments, such as developing computer automated emission spectrochemical analysis methods, supersonic propulsion and high-energy fuels. Gil's work has resulted in US patents, 56 publications and 110 conference presentations on subjects in which he specialized. Gil has BS, MS, MBA and Ph.D. degrees, and has been elected a Fellow in two technical societies. His list of 34 awards include the 2002 MKL Professor of Physics at Wayne State University and Black Engineer of the Year in 1999. |
